Lead Dental Assistant

Department: Dental Services
Location: Newport, RI

East Bay Community Action Program is hiring for a Lead Dental Assistant. In addition to performing all duties of Dental Assistant, the Lead assists the Dental Director, Dental Manager, and Community Coordinator in various tasks within the Dental Center to ensure a smooth operational environment. Assists in training dental assistant staff, recordkeeping, inventory/supply orders and oversight of daily schedule. This position serves as a role model for professionalism, customer service, team member interactions, and effective communication.

Responsibilities:

  1. Perform all duties assigned to those classified as Dental Assistant.
  2. Provide back-up coverage in absence of Receptionist as needed
  3. Track inventory of dental supplies and notify Dental Manager of necessary reorders in a timely manner to ensure adequate stock at all times.
  4. Assist Community Dental Program staff with clerical work when needed
  5. Receive calls from staff who are unable to work, and contact other staff to obtain coverage.
  6. Monitor schedule and workflow and provide reminders to dental staff to keep appointments on schedule and minimize lateness.
  7. Review monthly staffing schedule to ensure appropriate coverage at all times.
  8. Contact appropriate vendor when service calls are needed for dental equipment.
  9. Assist Dental Manager to train Dental Assistant and Reception Staff as needed
  10. Complete timely maintenance logs in compliance with our HRSA guidelines
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by Dental Manager and/or Dentist.

Qualifications:

  • High school education or equivalent preferred.
  • Certification by the Dental Assisting National Board as a “certified dental assistant” preferred.
  • Maintain current certification in CPR at the healthcare provider level of the American Heart Association.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Strong verbal, written, and analytical skills required as incumbent must often communicate and/or negotiate with patients, staff, management, other providers and the community.
  • This position requires access, review, preparation and use of confidential information of a medical, personal, social, and psychological nature to accurately assist in making diagnoses on data and histories obtained through patients.
