LIHEAP/Safety Net Eligibility Specialist

Department: Low Income Home Energy Assistance
Location: Newport, RI

East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) is seeking a full-time LIHEAP/Safety Net Eligibility Specialist/Technician who is responsible for intake, assessment, data entry, basic information, and referral and all other activities related to the LIHEAP and Safety Net programs.

  • Meet with clients to conduct and assess eligibility for available services within EBCAP to improve basic needs.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other EBCAP programs, to process referrals for EBCAP consumers who have needs for additional social service.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports required for RI Community Food Bank.
  • Assist with food pantry enrollment, food distribution, ordering, and community pick-ups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

The Eligibility Technician will meet with individuals and/or families in the office, and in the community to assess and determine appropriate linkages to EBCAP services, including, but not limited to social service wrap-around and treatment services. May include regular travel to agency sites and flexible hours, as well as picking up of products in the community for food pantries.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Previous experience navigating LIHEAP benefits preferred.
