ESL Instructor/Teacher

Location: East Providence, RI

East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) is seeking a 10 hours per week, ESL Instructor, for our Education & Career Pathways Program, located in East Providence, RI. The ESL Instructor is a part year position to last 31 weeks. The ESL Instructor will teach English Language to adults (18+) and youth (14-24 years), in small groups, and work with them to achieve the outcomes defined in their individual learning/employment plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Add workforce-relevant lessons and materials as appropriate.
  • Ensure that the learning environment is professional, positive, and supportive of the students and meets the standards established by the state of Rhode Island.
  • Maintain student records and data system input.
  • Instruct ESOL learners in a multilevel classroom, at appropriate levels, in small cohorts separated as “in-school” and “out-of-school”.
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans and curriculum for all students based on the assessed needs of each, utilizing a broad range of appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies addressing all aspects of communication that develop each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in English.
  • Use Universal Design for Learning guidelines as appropriate. Blend digital and independent work with formal instruction. Guide students on accessing and using academic software, such as Burlington English. Software to be determined with Director.
  • Administer diagnostic and achievement assessments for the screening evaluation of student’s progress in meeting individual learning targets progress in language acquisition, using tools such as CASAS and GED-Ready.
  • Maintain complete records of each student’s progress and evidence of growth.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field, and a minimum of 2 years of experience instructing English-language learners of any age. Experience with young adult learners is a plus. Bilingual in Spanish, and/or a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification is a plus.
