Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program

East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) is seeking positive and energetic individuals for our Early Childhood Apprenticeship program.

Participate in a paid Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program for up to 12 weeks or 480 contact hours onsite, including completing a CDA. This program is designed to prepare candidates to begin a career in Early Childhood Education with a focus on developmentally appropriate practices that ensure all children have the opportunity for a high-quality, nurturing, and safe learning experience. Work in partnership with teaching teams, accepting guidance to provide daily classroom activities

The program will include in-person and online training, hands-on practice, classroom observation with instruction, assessment of skills, and group mentoring. Training will include early childhood development (birth to 5 years) and quality practices as outlined in Head Start Program Performance Standards, Rhode Island Child Care Center Regulations for Licensing, Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, RI Early Learning and Development Standards, Incredible Years (IY), Conscious Discipline classroom strategies (CD), The Creative Curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices (DAP) as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The program supports interns who complete training and practice to engage with children under the supervision of an Education Coordinator or Lead Teacher.

Apprentices are expected to work full 8-hour days, 40 hour weeks.

After the program candidates will have completed a training portfolio to document their training and classroom hours, and that supports application for a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Upon successful completion, the Apprentice will continue in an entry-level Teacher Assistant position.

KNOWLEDGE OF AND PROFICIENCY IN:

Apprentices must possess a strong interest and commitment to early childhood education. Good communication skills, including reading and writing in English (Spanish a plus!). Ability to promote a caring and respectful attitude toward children, staff, and other interns, respecting privacy and confidentiality. Good time management and documentation skills. Comfortable using technology.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION:

High School Diploma/GED required.

This is a full-time (35-hour/week) position.
